Infrastructure: The Backbone of Economic Development for Junction City-Geary County

Did you know that every successful community across the country shares one common trait?
Strong, reliable infrastructure.
From roads, rails, and bridges to water systems, reliable broadband access, and an updated utility system, they all connect people, businesses, and opportunities. And when that’s in place, it ensures thoughtful development and economic prosperity for all.
All Roads Lead to Geary County
Junction City Geary County Economic Development Commission (JC-GCEDC) is just one of the many economic development offices throughout the state competing with each other to woo businesses to the region.
Quite literally, all roads lead to Junction City. From being situated right along I-70, the country’s main cross-country artery, to easy on and off access to U.S. 77, Highways 18 and 57, and I-135, along with an abundance of air and rail arteries, our location is hard to beat.
Which is why it’s vitally important that our infrastructure is modern, up to date, and in good working order. When it's not, even the most promising communities end up struggling to attract and retain employers.
When businesses open or expand here, they bring good-paying jobs with them. And the more jobs, the more people want to live here, work here, and spend money here in support of our local economy.
We like to think that a dollar spent in Geary County stays in Geary County, which is why the JC-GCEDC is so passionate about making sure we’ve got the infrastructure improvements in place to attract business and industry to our corner of the world.
Better Infrastructure Means a Better Quality of Life
Another major role in economic competitiveness is whether a community offers a good quality of life. If you think about it, poor road systems, outdated utilities, and unreliable broadband don’t do much to entice people to live in an area.
But it also means more than just maintaining what exists. It’s about preparing for the future by modernizing systems that can ensure capacity for new residents and new industry alike. Better, more reliable broadband supports entrepreneurship and the ability to work remotely. And well-thought out transportation road and rail networks make new development sites more attractive to potential businesses.
When those are solid, it attracts more quality retail stores, hotels, healthcare clinics, hospitals, and housing for our area.
Each functions like a piece to the puzzle, working together to create an environment where economic growth equates to a higher quality of life.
Growth… For Decades to Come
And that’s one of the cornerstones of the JC-GCEDC mission. It’s why we work together with community and government leaders to plan and fund infrastructure projects, laying the groundwork for long-term success.
By creating jobs today, we can enable growth for decades to come. In doing so, we’re not only strengthening the foundation for sustainable growth, but we’re also building a more connected, resilient, and prosperous future.
