Building a Lakeside Paradise: The Story of Mike Harris's Vision and Success at Milford Lake

Owner Mike Harris's passion for the outdoors has been a lifelong affair. "My family and I have always been drawn to outdoor activities. We spent our summers camping, fishing, and boating by the lake." After serving as a Park Ranger for the Kansas Department of Wilde and Parks for 15 years, he saw an opportunity to create something special.

"Witnessing the growing demand for outdoor experiences at Milford Lake, I seized the opportunity to become a concessionaire through a Corps of Engineers proposal. What started as a modest venture with a few cabins and campsites has blossomed into the largest lakeside resort in Kansas featuring a nine-room lodge, 25 custom-made cabins, three Pacific yurts, and 61 RV campsites."

Experience the Best of Kansas Outdoors: Fishing, Boating, and Hunting at Acorns Resort

Acorns Resort is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, offering access to both Milford Lake and Acorns Wild. Milford Lake, the largest lake in Kansas with over 15,000 surface acres, beckons visitors with its tranquil waters and 163 miles of pristine shoreline. Boating, fishing, and relaxing on sandy beaches are popular activities, making it an ideal destination for water enthusiasts as well. With 14 public boat launches, accessing the lake is convenient for sailboats, fishing boats, and pleasure crafts.

Fishing enthusiasts will appreciate Milford Lake's abundance of gamefish, including Wipers, Walleye, Crappie, Bass, Catfish, and White Bass. Whether you're an experienced angler or a novice, the lake offers plentiful opportunities to reel in a trophy catch. Several state records have been set with fish caught from Milford Lake, highlighting its reputation as a sought-after fishing destination.

Hunting in the Kansas Flint Hills is a cherished tradition, attracting sportsmen and women each fall in pursuit of ringneck pheasants, bobwhite quail, and Kansas whitetails. However, many enthusiasts lack access to these legendary hunting grounds. Acorns Wild, spanning over 1000 acres of grasslands, wooded areas, and rolling hills, fills this void by offering a premier hunting experience in a stunning natural setting.

Acorns Resort is more than just a place to stay—it's a testament to the enduring allure of Geary County and Milford Lake. Through our unwavering dedication to quality, service, and community engagement, Owner Mike Harris wants guests to experience the magic of Acorns Resort and forge cherished memories against the backdrop of Kansas' largest lake.
