Tax Rates
The financial health of the city is excellent. The 2007 budget process resulted in a decline in the mill levy of 7.5 mills. This marks the marked the eighth year that the city’s mill levy has remained stable or declined. The city’s debt continues to be well within our statutory limit and our close work with bond and financial counsel ensures that our financial position is strong. The outlook for the future is very positive given the growing economy in Junction City and careful fiscal management by the City Commission.
The mill levy is the tax rate applied to the assessed value of property. The County Clerk calculates the mill levy by dividing the dollars needed for city services by the assessed property value within the city limits. This is repeated for each taxing unit—schools, county and city. Each mill equals 1/1000 of a dollar. (From the 2006 City of Junction City Annual Report)
